August by Judith Rossner review of Freudian themes
A look at Judith Rossner's August focusing on two cosmopolitan women Dawn Henley and Lulu Shinefeld in four years of analytic sessions. The critic notes some dull spots but praises the gripping psychoanalytic exploration and the characters' search for meaning. Dawn finds a path to independence while Lulu remains unsettled.
