Pair Awaits Sentencing in Destin Slaying Case
John F. Williams of Santa Rosa Beach was found guilty May 26 of first degree felony murder and robbery with a deadly weapon in the Aug 21 slaying of Destin resident Ted Schery. Williams faces life in prison. Richard Mickey Alan Park of Ringgold Georgia pleaded no contest Oct 13 to second degree murder and armed robbery in exchange for two concurrent 99 year terms. Sentencing is set for 9 30 a.m. Thursday Nov 3 in Shalimar with no death penalty seeking agreement for testimony against the other.

Dancer’s Death Declared Accidental Awaiting Lab Tests
Less than a week after Destin man was freed on bond in Susan Redmond’s murder, coroner Kielman called the death an accident pending quantitative drug tests. Redmond, 18, a Fort Walton Beach dancer, was found on a South Walton beach October 6 with morphine in her system after reportedly drinking wine with deckhand Joseph Brennan, whose account changed and led to his arrest. The sheriff said investigations stall until lab results, expected Tuesday, confirm drug quantities.

Okaloosa County EMTs aided Destin resident Robert Kimrey after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 98 that left him with head lacerations and bruises. Crestview resident Jack Smart, 30, faces an improper turning charge after attempting a U-turn in the westbound lane. Kimrey’s Pontiac hit the dump truck, Smart uninjured, Kimrey taken to Humana Hospital Fort Walton Beach.
