A two year study by the Northwest Florida Water Management District says a proposed causeway across Choc tawhatchee Bay could alter currents and water quality, risking low dissolved oxygen and fish kills like those at Old Pass Lagoon. Gas Tax Passage Sets Stage for Highway 98 Relocation
The statewide gas tax approval paves the way for Highway 98 relocation with construction to start in October. Allen Potter of the state DOT says the 1.7 cent hike speeds the project, slated to take about 18 months to finish. The plan moves four miles north from Airport Road to Walton County line near Sandestin, with a three mile extension into South Walton at a total cost of about 9 million dollars.
