Zoning Plans Elicit Mixed Reviews In Destin Peninsula

Residents question zoning for Destin peninsula as a seven member panel reviews a large map displayed at the Destin Library. A July 7 meeting at the Destin Community Center will revisit Joe's Bayou development and demands for changes to BT to RSS, Sibert Avenue rezoning, and airport area land designations.

Destin businesswoman disappointed as marina fee hike approved

Destin resident Fran Beaird says she is disappointed the governor and Cabinet rejected the Blue Ribbon Marina Committee recommendation and adopted a 6.5 cent per square foot lease fee on submerged lands. The plan includes a 30 percent reduction to 4.5 cents for public docks and marinas, with special rules for multi unit housing and grandfathered facilities. Monies from the higher fees go to the Internal Improvement Trust Fund for state lands.
