Apalachicola River navigational changes threaten fish habitat
Fisheries biologist Lothian Ager reports the Apalachicola River’s ability to sustain quality game fish is in doubt due to snags and treetops removal, dredging for a nine foot channel, and spoil deposition. The Corps and DER agreed soil disposal sites cover over a quarter of the 106 mile river, altering habitat and reducing food for fish.

Sunshine Bass tagged and released in Escambia River study
Four thousand Sunshine Bass fingerlings released in the Escambia River carry internal anchor tags. Fisheries Biologist Dave Yeager explains tag returns reveal growth, stocking impact, and public use. Since 1978 over 2.6 million Sunshine Bass fingerlings have been released, with catches up to 14 pounds in nearby rivers.
