Water funding urged to protect Northwest Florida resources
Northwest Florida Water Management District Executive Director Bill McCartney warned Okaloosa and Walton counties face jeopardy to water resources if the Legislature blocks a bill to raise ad valorem taxes to the 1 mill limit. He contrasted district funding of about $2.4 million with Lee County’s $4.4 million, noting dependence on grants and donations is unsafe and could force county residents to bear costs or see state takeover by the Department of Environmental Regulation.
