Destin Could Warrant Special Zoning Rules Says Official

County planning officials urged a Destin zoning review panel to consider a special zoning category for the peninsula. They cited Destin's water boundary and tourist profile, proposing mixed use or garden type clusters to serve seniors and reduce spot zoning. A public workshop on Ordinance 74-4 is planned with a June 21 community meeting to display maps and gather resident input before final recommendations go to the P&I and county commissions.

Rep Dunbar gets Destin reef named in his honor

Destin honors Rep. Pete Dunbar with an artificial reef named the Dunbar Reef southwest of the Crystal Beach Pier in 69 feet of water. More than 40 surplus dumpsters were towed to the site by Capt. Bruce Ming aboard Miss Destin Two, with 49 dumpsters planned. Local boat captains support reef efforts to replenish Gulf fisheries and Dunbar expressed appreciation while noting past license battles.
