Choctaw Ferry: South Walton small craft crossing history
In South Walton County near Choctawhatchee Bay the Choctaw Ferry carries cattle lumber and people since 1936. Operator Buddy Norris his wife Janice and daughter Tiffany Nicole run the 40 by 16 foot boat offering frequent 2 minute crossings with 200 vehicles on busy days. The canal cut in the mid thirties opened a route across the Intra Coastal Waterway and the ferry remains a county operated lifeline amid nearby Bunker subdivision woods and canyons.
