State Fines Chief Over '82 Election Act

The Florida Elections Commission fined and reprimanded the Destin Volunteer Fire Department and chief Terry Watkins for violating state election laws by endorsing candidates in the 1982 Destin Fire District race. The group failed to file independent expenditure reports and disclaimers, seek permission to endorse, or file as a group endorsing candidates. A final order on December 6, 1983, imposed a $100 joint fine and reprimand, with Watkins paying the amount later that month.
