Planning Council on Legislative Hotseat
A revived 1984 bill would abolish Florida’s 11 regional planning councils and place regional growth issues under water management districts. The proposal, drawn by the House Growth Management subcommittee, aims to stimulate debate and has mixed reception from planners and officials. Some oppose loss of regional councils’ autonomy. others see potential in district control. Gov. Graham would designate agencies if enacted. Subcommittee review is set for February 7 with subsequent possible moves.
