Assistant Chief Firemen Hired By Destin Board
Ingrid Kreis reports Destin Fire Control District hired Hank Berry as assistant fire chief and Tony Carroll as the first paid firefighter. Berry, 36, a 16 year Destin volunteer and Okaloosa County deputy, starts Feb 1 with a one year state firefighting certification goal. Carroll, 21, a five year volunteer, EMT and certified firefighter, earns 13000 annually. A third firefighter may be hired if budget allows. The board also approved a volunteer bonus plan to boost incentives and time contributions.
