Florida troopers report 87 percent rise in DUI arrests
Florida Highway Patrol data show January 1983 DUI arrests rose to 1,534 from 820 in January 1982. Executive Director Robert A. Butterworth credits concentrated enforcement and anti drunk driving campaigns for fewer traffic deaths, noting 192 deaths in January 1983 versus 207 a year earlier, a seven percent drop.
