Anglers Line Up for Red Man Trail Opener at Lake Okeechobee
Nearly 250 anglers registered for the February 3 Red Man Tournament Trail opener at Lake Okeechobee with 18 of last year’s 24 Gator Division All American qualifiers set to compete. Retaining stars include Bernie Schultz of Gainesville and Steve Porter of Okeechobee, both veterans of the 1983 All American. The Okeechobee event starts a 15-division schedule expanding to 90 tournaments nationwide, culminating in a $200,000 year end All American Championship. Entry costs and memberships are handled by Operation Bass, with a $50 pre-tournament fee and prizes funded by the circuit.

Move Slowly To Repair Trees After Cold Damage
Foresters urge caution before repairing trees damaged by recent cold waves across the peninsula. Look for signs such as dead leaves, shriveled limbs, or bark splitting, then wait to assess spring growth. If damage exists, prune dead wood from living tissue with smooth cuts, avoid long stubs, and note potential excess branching in spring.
