Emmett Gallagher of Memphis Tennessee says he spent a little more on gifts this year because he had more time and his wife and children did the shopping, while he did not.
A writer recalls an editor’s note to tighten a happiness piece and reflects on inner sources of happiness beyond material goods. Personal memories in Bar Harbor and Vermont illustrate happiness as moments of beauty and connection, not external wealth or status.
A reflective piece recalls Thanksgiving gatherings with family from Florida and Atlanta and friends from Destin. The narrator recalls a kitchen moment with a loved one and a Passion flower symbolizing faith and happiness, then describes a morning bicycle ride along Kell-Air Lake to Joe's Bayou and Choctawhatchee Bay, where fish swim and sunshine glitters, concluding that happiness exists beyond wealth and can be found anywhere.
Carol McCrute offers humorous 1985 forecasts covering Ron and Nancy on the ranch, Raquel Welch having twins, sequels like ET II and Star Wars III, TV reversals, and Destin politics with J R Ewing styling the mayoral race. She foresees a Destin bypass, a daily LOG dominance, and a retirement to grandmother duties as a closing wrap, with a cheeky new year sendoff.
