Harbor Group Meets Destin Harbor Committee Meeting
The Destin Harbor Committee will meet Monday August 29 to discuss priority actions for cleaning Old Pass Lagoon. The 10 member panel chaired by Okaloosa County Commissioner Mike Mitchell will itemize pollution sources identified earlier to tackle each cause one by one. The public session starts at 7 p.m. at the First National Bank of Destin on Highway 98.

Wally's Tires Donated For Destin Rescue Unit
Anne Clark of Destin donated a set of brand new tires for the Destin Search and Recovery Unit communications truck in memory of her late husband Wally. The tires cost 580 dollars, matching his annual medicine expenses, and will equip the ambulance converted to a mobile command post.

Destin Captain Injured Diving From Boat In Sound
Destin boat captain David Rojas remained in stable but guarded condition at Fort Walton Beach General Hospital on Thursday after neck injuries from a diving incident Tuesday in Santa Rosa Sound. Coast Guard and others responded to the 36 foot Rebel Yell near Brooks Bridge after two feet of water dive left him nonresponsive briefly. he later regained breathing before transport to the hospital.

Destin rezoning threads through Eastwood subdivision plan
Okaloosa County Planning Zoning approved a Residential Urban Apartment buffer along Eastwood Nin e subdivision from Stahlman Avenue to Benning Drive with 300 feet north of Azalea Drive. The board backed a Residential Intensive Apartment designation north of the buffer while removing Business Retail and Residential Urban Duplex zones from that area amid public input and concerns about spot zoning and future commercial uses.

Public Hearings Scheduled on Destin Zoning Plan
Destin zoning is set for two public hearings next month before Okaloosa County commissioners. The Destin Citizens Rezoning Committee and Planning and Zoning commission amendments guide the map. Hearings are 6 30 p m Sept 15 and Sept 29 at the Shalimar courthouse annex.
