Reefs Pay Summer Dividends in Destin Fishing
Destin's famed fishing scene relies on winter and spring artificial reef building by charter boat captains and crews. Boats place car bodies, tires, and metal casings as wrecks, then monitor Loran C readings to predict where fish will gather. Each year about 76 charter boats create 10 to 40 reefs, with two wrecks found by others for every three made. one reef often remains a captain's secret.
