Florida peace activists plan to net Navy missile at Eglin test
Activists led by Bruce Gagnon of the Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice say they will try to snag a U.S. Navy cruise missile during October tests over Okaloosa and Walton counties and east Alabama. The plan includes beach spotters, helium balloons and a net, inspired by Greenpeace methods, with demonstrations and a statewide symposium moved to Fort Walton Beach.

Mayors subdivision vote sparks debate on precedent
Planning and Zoning chair Jane Moore and commissioner Kathy Waits challenge the councils July 15 preliminary approval of mayor McIlroy and John Richard Miller to subdivide 3.4 acres on Calhoun Avenue into seven lots. They argue the project should return to P&Z under ordinance 74 5 and dispute claims of political favoritism amid resident concern over a precedent for future subdivisions. Council members defend the vote as within appeals scope and say not all decisions are political.
