Tourism Spurs Rise in County Crime Says Sheriff

County Puts More Teeth In Litter Law
Okaloosa County commissioners approved an eight page litter ordinance 4 to 0 to strengthen enforcement and add an environmental control officer. The measure allows sheriff deputies environmental staff and health officials to issue citations and requires tarps on loads of dirt sand lime rock gravel and similar material. Violations carry a fine of 25 to 500 dollars and up to 60 days in jail. Construction sites must contain debris daily and business generators must prevent wind driven litter.
