Numerous ads outline sales on yarn and crochet supplies at The Novelty and Rexall medicines, Star Brand Shoes from Weisman's, and building materials from Baxter Lumber Co. Dermott merchants announce a Majestic range demonstration, Liberty Loan efforts, and local post card notices while residents travel to Monticello and Pine Bluff for events and duties.
The opening Lyceum number will be presented next Wednesday evening, October 24, at 8 15. Attendees should be seated promptly to enjoy the program. Parents are asked to seat children with them and not allow them to crowd front seats.
Last Sunday a great day at the hyterian church featured a morning program with songs, recitations, and speeches on religious and patriotic topics. The evening choir concert drew a large, appreciative crowd, reflecting the churchs longtime musical tradition.
Evans and Beryl Evans were quietly married at 12 15 PM last Sunday at the bride’s parents home Rev J L Cannon officiated only close relatives and friends. A sumptuous dinner followed and the couple departed for Hot Springs for their honeymoon.
W. Trotter Liberty Loan chairman for Chicot County attended a state meeting of all county chairmen in Little Rock. W. L. Hemingway presided as state chairman with prominent state and district workers in attendance. Officers of the Federal Reserve District urged county chairs to report slackers in the Liberty Loan campaign.
Town gathers for tonight's four minute war talks at the Hotel Dermott auditorium starting at eight. Speakers include Judge E P Toney Judge W G Street Hon E G Hammock and Rev W A Rolle with music by an orchestra. Admission is free and a lively yo getter meeting is promised.
The South east Arkansas Literary & Athletic Association Board of Control met last Saturday to elect officers for the coming year. ML Milner of Parkdale was chosen president and G A Brown of McGehee secretary. Dermott was designated spring meet location for three years. A B Hill of Little Rock attended to discuss high school issues with principals. Other attendees included M L Milner CG A Brown Hu Neville J R Anders W O Clark A J Drew H B Sherman Read D F Montgomery R Wilson Frank Harsmtivelle and M J Anders.
The revival meeting will start next Sunday at the Baptist church conducted by the pastor and local workers. An invitation is extended to all Christians and workers to join, with the aim of saving souls and reviving Christians. P. Sims, Pastor.
W C Trotter announces sub committees for the Second Liberty Loan in Chicot County. Local banks and leaders like Johnny Simms and J C Gillian head publicity and subscription drives. With $105,000 target, $63,000 subscribed so far. officials urge residents to invest to support the war and avoid taxes.
