County Chairman E P Remley reports the second day of the Red Cross Drive shows Dermott and Chicot County over the top and still going. All committee members are on the job and the aim is a 100 percent campaign with every citizen giving to his limit.
A large Sunday evening rally at Dermott High School opened Red Cross Week with a patriotic program. Secretary of State Tom J. Terral, Judge W. B Sorreira, and E. P. Toney spoke and were cheered as they urged a fight to the finish with Germany. Rev. W. A. Rolle presided. Kate Moore sang and M. J. Anders led a chorus of 200 school children in songs like It’s a Long Way to Kaiser and On to Berlin.
E. P. Remley county Red Cross War Fund chairman hosted twenty six committeemen from across the county at a Lake Shore Hotel Lake Village dinner. They discussed drive plans and expressed strong confidence Chicot county will go over the top. Dermott attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Remley Mrs. Kimpel and Messrs Rolle Barlow Hennett Helmstetter Marks Hoffman and Kinney.
A wartime appeal urges readers to conserve time and money for the Second Red Cross War Fund. The anonymous call urges immediate pledge, noting solicitors are busy volunteers giving time and funds. The message dismisses debate on giving and asks for a decisive yes when approached.
Annie Tillman Foster aged 17 died at her home at 5 55 yesterday morning after five days illness. Her remains go to Clarksville for burial. She was a Methodist and a beloved Der mott citizen, mother of ten children with eight predeceased. One daughter J W Sallis lives in Clarksville and Lois remains in Dermott as longtime primary teacher. Sympathy flows from many.
In a letter, Harvey Parnell asks friends to vote next Tuesday to help his bid for Representative from Chieat county. He thanks supporters for their help and expresses confidence in a large majority.
