A call to spiritual devotion amid troubled times urges men to attend worship and live by faith. The Presbyterian church announces Bible study, morning and evening services, and a Christian Endeavor gathering on the upcoming Sunday.
Rev. W. F. Rogers of Warren will preach at both morning and evening services, leading the parish with a single weekend program.
The Sunday services united Mrs C C Rose Charles Rose Mrs C Campbell and Mrs R S Morrison by letter. Three minute addresses opened every service. Rev W P Whaley delivered a fine sermon at night and presided over quarterly conference noting the district's best financial report. Regular services next Sunday. C Dean Pastor.
On February 19 a Pastor's Aid social gathering was hosted by Mrs H H Dyer with Mrs Paul Johnson as cohostess. A spirited musical contest and other amusements followed by sandwiches and hot chocolate. Membership continues to grow. The society adjourned to meet March 5 at Mrs J B Daniela's home.
The defendant Jim Smith is warned to appear within thirty days and answer Minnie Smith's complaint in Chicot Chancery Court. Filed February 27, 1919 by Clerk Abner Gaines with D C Crenshaw as attorney for Minnie Smith.
Charl H Ray of the County Map Co in Little Rock visited Chicot to assess publishing a detailed land ownership map. He cites strong local interest from bankers and farmers, aiming to attract six to ten external map buyers and support from school boards and the County Judge. The plan would include land owner names, roads, railways, towns, schools, churches, levees, and drainage.
Demonstration notes encourage farmers in Chicot county to shift to cash basis farming and rely on County Agents for answers. Agents visit Eudora and Dermott on set days, with demonstrations on poultry and fruit trees. Emphasis on surplus production, poultry and milk cows, and boosting egg profits as a path to independence.
The note instructs Red Cross Home Service to assist discharged soldiers who report unpaid pay and to direct them to contact the Director of Finance, US Army, Washington. It also announces a Courier Service to France for soldiers in the A B F and asks families to write to the Adjutant General, War Department, with full details, while the Bureau of Communication handles casualty inquiries.
One stray red sow with black spots was captured. The hog bears a slit in the left ear and an undercut in the right. Owner identified as BT Annie Webster.
An examination for post office clerks will be held at the city post office on March 1. Eligibility includes age limits of at least 45 years on exam day, marital status restrictions for women, and physical requirements: height at least 4 feet 6 inches and weight minimum 125 pounds excluding overcoat. Applications provide full details and must be addressed to Ruth Evans, Secretary, Board of Civil Service Examiners, Dermott, Arkansas.
