The Winning of Latane will be presented at the Dermott school auditorium Friday night by high school students under Miss Annie Laurie Whitson. It is a school benefit and public patronage is solicited. The production follows other local notices on theater and community events.
Murphy Swain Mra Kate Swain and WH Murphy of Litt Rock were married last Saturday in Little Rock. They will live there where Murphy works for Missouri Pacific at Camp Pike. Both are well known locally with many friends predicting happiness.
Henry Gaster sold his interest in Valley Mercantile to partner J O Bynum who will run it as before. Gaster then bought CM Measel’s stake in Dermott Hardware & Furniture, Measel exiting to pursue canning Kaiser work. Dermott Hardware now lists W G Barnett and Henry Gaster as owners.
Anti Bootleggers Association news reports the arrests of Paul Washington Robert Watson Curtis Neal Hal Bradley Tump Smith and Frank Howard all colored on illegal handling of liquor last Friday. Each pleaded guilty and were fined 100 plus costs except Paul Washington fined 200 on two counts. On Saturday Wade Moore was arrested and convicted on evidence from Marshal Ab Parrish and fined 10.
The National Entertainment Council announces a new campaign with Dermott Arkansas receiving a call to join the effort. The note praises P. Remiley for election as a council member and envisions strong state participation under his leadership as supplies begin to be shipped. Harry P. Harrison signs as Executive Chairman in Washington.
At a stockholders meeting last week the bank reelected directors J J McCloy D Kimpel G W Lambert C T Duke E B McCullough W H Roper and W D Trotter The board also chose officers with J J McCloy as President D Kimpel as Vice President W D Trotter as Cashier and W J Splawn Angus McDermott as Assistant Cashiers.
Rebekah Lodge No. 123 held a regular session on Thursday January 10. Officers installed include Noble Grand Mrs. J Cohen Vice Grand Mrs. E E Shuey Secretary Mrs. C Wooten Treasurer Mrs. B V Evans District Deputy President Mrs. Dora Johnson with installing officer Mrs. Dora Johnson assisted by Mrs. G Michael.

C.M. Measel, chairman, asks all who made Army Y.M.C.A. pledges to call at Valley Mercantile Co. to pay or send a check. He notes it takes considerable time to call on each subscriber and asks compliance.

Residing near Eudora, he is known countywide and cites Eudora Herald backing as a local paper with strong interests. He pledges faithful and capable service if elected.
