Dermott locals report visitors from Alexandria Fordyce Drew and Little Rock. The Novelty adds Georgette waists. Rexall products promoted. A lyceum event The Red Rambler appears. several residents travel to Hot Springs and Portland. Community notices include church meetings and a new chime clock for the bank.
Dermott Four Minute Men report totals for War Causes national Red Cross drive and YMCA drives. Remley chairs Red Cross and YMCA campaigns with receipts and pledges noted. Officers praise speakers including Rev. William A. Rolle for wide audiences and lasting patriotic impact.
The Arkansas Louisiana Highway District prospectus shows War Department engineers backing permission to take gravel and sand from the Mississippi River for concrete work. The road would connect Alexandria and Little Rock, aiding military operations and transport to the Gulf and Mississippi River. The full prospectus will appear next week.
Southeast Arkansas Levee Board met Tuesday with President Co War field and Secretary H Thane among attendees. They awarded a contract to Contractor Clark for 150000 cubic yards of levee on the Arkansas River and the 10000 acre South Bend Plantation donated by Governor Lowden. The board also authorized sale of 50000 in bonds, its first issue.
Election notice states all candidates for city primary must file pledges with the City Central Committee and City Recorder by January 19. Those failing to file will be barred from running. Harvey Parnell, Nielsen, Henry Gaster listed as committee members.
Ab Parrish announces his candidacy for reelection as Dermott City Marshal in the upcoming city primary on February 1. Longtime public servant, eight years as night marshal, currently serving as mayoral marshal with noted efficiency and public approval. He asks for voters support.
The Dermott District holds a Sunday School Convention at the Dermott Presbyterian Church on Sunday February 3 inviting all white Sunday Schools in the district including West Dermott and Bellaire to participate.
Red Cross knitters are asked to meet with Mrs. Harvey Parnell next Friday afternoon to present finished work for shipment. A letter from Red Cross headquarters in St. Louis says they inspected articles shipped on December 18 and remain in great need of knitted items including mufflers and regulation helmets.
In Dermott a regular column announces J T Crenshaw as a candidate for Recorder. Crenshaw has served as recorder since last September filling the vacancy after Crook left town. He is described as an oldest and trusted citizen who would devote his best efforts to the office if elected.
Dermott resident Jim Johnson announces candidacy for City Marshal in the upcoming February 19 primary election. Johnson, with eighteen months serving as deputy constable and constable, pledges to perform duties diligently and asks for voters support and influence in the campaign.
Notes say all services last Sunday were well attended and the Sunday School reached its largest enrollment ever. There will be no preaching next Sunday but members are invited to attend Sunday School at 10 oclock. Signed by F C Sims Pastor.
