Dermott reports 1854 new Red Cross members secured in a week, led by P Reniley as chairman. State chairman D H Cantrell calls it the best town effort in the state, with White and Black workers, local firms like Fee Crayton Hardwood Lumber Co. recording full participation, and Dermott nearly doubling its 100 member goal through thorough canvassing and rallies.
The Medical Advisory Board for Chicot Desha and Ashley Counties organized yesterday morning. Dr. E. E. Barlow was elected chairman and Dr. J. C. Simpson of Hamburg secretary. Other members include Dr. E. Baker Dermott Dr. E. P. McGehee Lake Village and Dr. Crume Hamburg. The board aims to examine and decide claims for exemption based on physical disability upon appeals from the Local Exemption Board. Dermott designated as meeting place for this district.

Congressman William Goodwin, back from the European battlefields, will speak in Chivet County next Monday. He will appear at Lake Village at 10 am, Endura at 2 pm, and Dermott as scheduled. RP Remley, RP Stinson, and Henry Hordedus head the arrangements with local committees named for Arnate ments.
A government plan pools small savings at 4 percent interest compounded quarterly through War-Savings Stamps and Thrift Stamps. Stamps cost 25 cents for Thrift. War Savings Stamp costs between 25 cents and 1.28 dollars, payable at purchase. Buy at post offices banks and authorized agencies to aid the war effort and save lives.
Land owners in the Dermott Drainage District are warned only a few weeks remain in the one year period to redeem lands sold for drainage taxes. The Board does not want to take over lands but may do so if not redeemed by Jan 1. Owners should check tax receipts and address unpaid drainage taxes promptly. W. D. Trotter, Chair of Board.
Sealed proposals for grading paving draining and other work on about 42 miles of macadam and 112 miles of mixed method asphalt roadways in five Arkansas Louisiana counties due by 10 am January 15 191s. Bids may be for five counties or the whole. Plans specs and drawings available at McGehee and Little Rock offices. Proposals require certified check or bid bond of at least 3 percent. The Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
Five dollars reward offered for the recovery of a black mare mule branded S on the shoulder or hip. About ten years old, 950 pounds, blocky and shy, strayed from W L Blanks plantation near Parkdale around late November. Notify W L Blanks at Hamburg, Arkansas.
