In Worthing Indiana, a rooster fought a two foot snake for thirty minutes in a poultry yard watched by C. B. Corbin, Hamilton Welton, and several fowls. The rooster attacked with beak and spurs, finally killing the snake and crowing on the fence. The flock then fed on the torn reptile.
Petersburg reports Norman Selby, while replanting a drought burned field, found a valuable watch he had dropped a year ago. The watch, given by his father, was dented by a horse but still runs after winding, with only a broken crystal.
In Richmond on September 5, the Lucas farm 110 acres sold at public auction for 29 dollars per acre. Once the scene of a brutal murder by Seth Lucas, now in the Michigan City hospital for the criminally insane, the property located in Wayne County drew low bids despite typical local land values of 76 to 100 dollars per acre.
