Tragic Double Death in Greentown Family Feud

A brutal dawn tragedy in Greentown left James Ball 50 dead and Henry Murden 75 mortally wounded after Ball shot Murden at their home then killed himself. Witnesses say Ball’s mood changed after a failed land deal, followed by a violent struggle over a pistol as family members tried to intervene.

Pleasant surprise reunion and family gathering

John H. Ream enjoyed a homely fishing visit with about fifty friends and neighbors who surprised him at home with a lavish feast. The Eikenberry Family Reunion near Denver drew nearly 300 relatives from multiple states, with devotional exercises, elaborate talks on development, and a history of the Eikenberry line. The next reunion is planned for Russiaville in September 1900. Also announced is the Lake Erie & Western and Ft. Wayne line home visitors excursion to Cincinnati Dayton Columbus Louisville and other points on September 21 1899 with Denver departures at 657 am and a Dayton fare of 450. Tickets valid 30 days.
