J W Ellis Dies After Lingering Illness

J Wallace Ellis respected Peru resident and former Ellis Stiles carriage firm owner died at 13 East Third Street Peru after months of ill health. He was born October 21 1840 in Ohio and survived by his widow and daughter Mrs Earl D Smith of Delphi. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery followed services at the family home.

Waymire Returns from Indianapolis Visit After Family News

Mrs. E. S. Waymire of Denver has returned from a visit with her sister Mrs. J. R. McElwee in Indianapolis. The baby girl born to Mr. and Mrs. McElwee Monday August 35th prompted the trip, with Mrs. Waymire’s mother Mrs. W. H. McGrew accompanying to Indianapolis for a longer visit.

Local families plan summer visits and dinners near Perrysburg

The Misses Gladys Helen and Edna Benedict will spend Wednesday night at Fortville, guest of Lee Benedict and wife in Miami Florida. They will return Thursday evening. Rev Lince Myers and family were entertained at dinner Sunday at Homer Ward's northwest of Perrysburg.

Funeral of Mrs. Nancy Cole Draws Large Attendees

Widely known in Miami and Howard counties, Mrs. Nancy J. Cole of Chili and Deedsville is laid to rest in Howard county. Born July 30 1847 in Chili, she died August 26 in Kokomo at age 72 26. She leaves husband Lewis Cole, four children Sadie Shrader Ira Perry Jesse Cole Elizabeth Trent, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and siblings Joseph Martindale and a sister. Funeral crowds from Chili Deedsville and Peru attended.

W T See of Denver visited Peru Wednesday to secure hunting and fishing licenses for himself and his son Arnold. He plans a short vacation from Thursday to Sunday at Twin Lakes in Marshal county and expects to return with good fish stories.

Mastodon Jaw Displayed at Peru Museum During Homecoming

The Miami County Historical Society at the Peru Court House hosted a Labor Day event with exhibits including a mastodon lower jaw found in a field near Denver. Mounted by C. F. Fite and donated by his wife, the jaw reaches up to two and a half feet.

Maus Family Dinner Hosts Among North Manchester Guests

John H Fouts and wife with two daughters Ethel and Lavon and two grandsons visited North Manchester. They were joined by Rolland Lyman Maus and wife near Perrysburg and Carl Maus and wife near Mexico plus Gus Maus and wife from Denver for Sunday dinner.

Roosevelt Memorial aims to raise 5 million for national memorial

The Roosevelt Memorial Association plans a nationwide campaign in October 1927 to raise at least 5 million dollars for a Washington memorial and Oyster Bay park, possibly including Sagamore Hill. Honorary presidents include William H. Taft and Charles E. Hughes. The national committee features Gen. Leonard Wood and Henry Cabot Lodge among others. Officers in Indiana are Wm. C. Bobbs as state chairman and Linton A. Cox as vice chairman.

Mrs Martha Hoyt former Denver citizen died in St Joe Illinois Wednesday night after long illness. Funeral held at Denver Baptist Church and burial in Weasaw cemetery. The Sunday School scholars of the Denver Brethren Church were entertained at Peru City Park last week. They gathered at the church by machine transport, arrived with baskets, and shared a splendid noon dinner.

Maub Rankin wedding ties Peru to Denver pair

Miss Bernice Rankin daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur T Rankin of Peru married Carl Maus son of Mr and Mrs Augustus Maus of Denver in a Denver ceremony conducted by Rev Myers. The couple returned to Peru for a wedding supper and plan to live on the groom’s uncle Si Maus farm after a short trip. The bride, a Peru High School graduate and former Peru teacher, wore white net over pink with brides roses.

Bud Smeltzly Injured In Pony Accident

Bud Smeltzly the son of Mr and Mrs John Smeltzly of West Denver fractured his shoulder while riding a pony last Wednesday when a dog startled the animal. The pony swerved threw him to the ground striking his head and shoulders. He received prompt medical care and is recovering well. An X ray in Peru showed no other fractures.

Local Garage Manager Accepts New Post in Plymouth

C. Johnson, manager of the former Tyner Garage in Denver, has accepted the role of manager for Lawrence Bros. Distributing Agency in Plymouth Indiana handling Oldsmobile, Dodge, Chalmers and Mitchell cars. The position comes with a salary increase and a larger work field. Johnson credits his Denver and Bunker Hill friends for much of his success and sends them his regards and thanks.
