Surprise Family Dinner at McClain Home Reported

A noon gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas McClain on South York Street drew twenty three close relatives who arrived with baskets of chicken cake and pie for a shared meal. The celebration went well though Mr. McClain was away at work and not present. Attendees included John Manree and family from Huntington with Wm. McClain the Evangelist Te e McClain and family from neat Macy Charles Judy and family from Peru and Watson Stoner and family from Richland Township.

A northern town reports the Boyer Western Dramatic Co. failed to perform Tuesday evening due to a rain storm. The incident follows news that a Denver area tragedy disrupted plans and caused public concern.

Caught In Cave In Injures Payson Street Worker

Will Robbins digging a vault on Payson Street Friday was buried up to his shoulders when earth caved in. A heavy stone struck his head as Clinton Robbins called for help. Will was rescued but severely injured by the crushing earth and stones.

Woman Injured Inhed Fall. Confined To Bed For Days

Mrs. F K Buber suffered a head gash and other injuries after a fall through a cellar opening. She was unable to recall exactly how the accident happened but expects to be bedbound for several days.

Laurel Stove exhibit draws huge crowd and prize drawing

The L C Dukes and Co presentation last Wednesday and Thursday drew 3000 tickets and 400 plus holders. Charles Smith conducted the fair drawing with 1655 as the winning number held by Mrs A J Long of northeast of Denver. Mrs Long won the Laurel range amid broad approval and 7 dollars worth of aluminum ware given with each range.

Confessed Wife Murder Tells of Corn Field Burial

Clifford Wilkinson confessed to killing his wife Anna Wilkinson after a quarrel. He said she attacked him with an awl and he struck with a hammer in self defense, then buried the body in a corn field near their farm. He was arrested in Logansport and is jailed in Miami County.

Susie Burkholder Dies After Door Injury Shock

Susie Grace Burkholder, 24, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Burkholder, died at 578 East Fifth Peru after a brief illness from lockjaw. She sustained a crushed little finger when closing a door, then grew gravely ill by Friday evening. She was cashier in her father's grocery. Born November 11 1888, she leaves two sisters Nellie Pearson of Wabash and Hazel at home.

Funeral service held for Miss Burkholder in Denver

The funeral was conducted at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the Evangelical church by Rev. C. P. Maas. The burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery, one mile north of Denver. Miss Burkholder was a relative of Jerry Burkholder and well known in this community.
