The Brethren Church schedules Sunday November 24 services with Sunday School at 9:30 led by Omer Flora, Morning Worship at 10:30 on “The Fruitfulness of an Unfading Life,” Young People's Meeting at 6:30 led by Miss Flossie Pettie, and Evening Worship at 7:30 on “A Man in Christ.” A Friday, November 28 business meeting closes the year. Teachers Training and Choir Practice Thursday evening.

Thanksgiving Party at Stockdale Home Northwest of Denver

Miss Agnes Stockdale hosted a Thanksgiving Party for about thirty young people at the Stockdale home northwest of Denver on Wednesday evening. The decor featured black and yellow crepe and corn. Refreshments included Jello, whipped cream, pressed chicken sandwiches, olives, Nabiscos, and coffee. Out of town guests were Miss Roth Ray and Bernice Rankin of Peru and Messrs Noah Sivage and Grande Bish of near Chili.

Influenza Closes Jefferson Township Schools Briefly

Schools in Jefferson township reopened last Thursday after a five week influenza closure. Mexico town school closed again for three days due to a sick teacher, while other schools continue but face possible closures as new cases rise daily.

Mrs Hunt Undergoes Operation For Floating Kidney Tumor

Mrs N B Hunt underwent surgery at Eastman Hospital in Indianapolis after months of illness from a floating kidney and a tumorous growth. Dr J W Newell accompanied the family and reported a successful procedure by prominent surgeon Dr Eastman. Mrs Hunt recovered well and improving, with prior travel plans delayed by illness and flu delays.

Mrs Elizabeth Savage Pioneer Resident Dies at 85

Mrs Elizabeth Savage widow of John Savage died at her Macy area home two miles east of Macy on a Saturday morning. She was past 85 and survived by two daughters Mrs Charlotte Wording and Mrs Rose Grimes of Peru and two sons Noah of Macy and James of Montana with brother O P Cover of Denver. Funeral held Monday at one o clock with burial beside her husband in Gilead cemetery. Denver attendees included C P Cover and wife and Charles Luckenbill. The Long machine with Charles Long driver transported the party.

Grant Harper born to Mr and Mrs Floyd Zook

A new baby boy arrived Tuesday November 19 at the Zooks home north of Denver. The child weighed seven pounds and was named Grant Harper. Parents and grandparents expressed happiness over the event.

The couple traveled from Denver to Frankfort for papers then returned via Logansport where the ceremony took place. Both families praise the newlyweds as popular energetic young people with bright futures.

Surprise Birthday Party for David Fishback

On a Friday evening near Denver, Mrs. Fishback and neighbors staged a pleasant surprise for David Fishback’s birthday. About thirty to thirty five guests gathered at his home after he and W. W. Sellers were lured away for business in Denver. The host served a three course supper including oysters, sandwiches, celery, pickles, coffee, pumpkin pie, mince pie and doughnuts. everyone enjoyed the evening and would welcome another similar gathering.

Sweet Potatoes From Alabama Impress Tribune Staff

Joseph Murphy of near Denver submitted two sweet potatoes as a sample from a barrel received last week from Harley Kindig of Castleberry Alabama. The two weigh three pounds minus one ounce, are smooth and well proportioned, and described as real beauties. Murphy says the barrel held about four bushels with the editors sample reflecting the lot, noting Alabama leads in sweet potato farming.
