Otho Bunnell and wife visited Rollie Bunnell and wife near Perrysburg last Thursday. Many neighbors and relatives called on Mrs. Hamilton to see daughter Kate. Miss Maude Yoder and Mrs. Pottenger visited Friday afternoon. Otho Bunnell family spent Sunday with Melvin Wise. Elmer Oliver visited Rollie Bacon’s. Charles Bayless and family called on Truman Ward and attended church in Fulton. A group of local girls gathered at Mexi co Methodist parsonage for missionary study led by Mrs. Cady with chop sticks refreshments.

Armistice Day Observance Planned in Peru County

In observance of Armistice Day a countywide celebration is planned in Peru on Friday November 11. A seven o'clock parade will include patriotic floats and ex servicemen from the entire county with special guests the Gold Star Mothers. A mass meeting and community singing will follow on the Court House Lawn with a Chicago community singer directing.

Mexico to Dedicate New School Building in Ceremony

The Mexico township to hold dedication of the new school Friday at 1 PM with Dr. John Runkle delivering the address. D S Hood led efforts to finish in seven months, outperforming typical nine to twelve month timelines. Program includes band, orchestra, songs, prayers, and talks by Hood and others.

Missionary Society Meets With Vera Kinsey

The Women's Baptist Missionary Society gathered with Mrs. Vera Kinsey last Thursday beginning with song The Solid Rock and scripture 1 Peter 3 1 14 read by the president. Echoes from the State Convention in Peru were shared by several members and a letter from Lizzie Tharp in Oregon was read. Roll call responses each member with a verse containing foundation. Meeting closed with prayer by Mrs Chloe Golden. Next meeting to be hosted by Mrs Minnia Tharp.

Foster Long Family Attend Lima Lecture at M E Church

Mr and Mrs Foster Long and granddaughter Marlee Stockdale with Ina Fouts motored to Peru Sunday to hear Lyell Rader of New York give a fine lecture at the M E Church. They were later entertained at dinner at the home of Cheston Long and Thomas Ballenger with Miss Mide Saunders of Rochester.

Missionary Meeting of Brethren Church Women

The Women's Missionary Society met at Mrs. Alice Maus home on November 8 with 28 members and four visitors. They planned a Peru market for November 19 to fund church lights, discussed giving topics, and welcomed Mrs Maye Shoemaker as a new member. The meeting closed with prayer and refreshments.

Jefferson Township High School Moves to Mexico Building

The Jefferson Township High School moved to a new building in Mexico this week. After five days of packing and transport, classes began in Mexico on Wednesday with L. H. Dice as principal in charge. The Mexico dedication Friday will feature Hon. John Runkle, former Miami County school superintendent.

Holman Buys Peru Republican Newspaper

Omer Holman becomes owner of the Peru Republican, purchasing from the Estate of W W Lockwood for about 210000 dollars. The Republican is among the oldest weekly papers in the state, under Lockwood family ownership for over forty years, with Holman managing since W W Lockwood’s death fifteen years ago.

Mrs. David Doddridge Passes Away

Mrs. David Doddridge of Wayne County died recently, a sister of Mrs. John J. Henwood of Connersville Indiana and a first cousin of Mrs. W. G. Shumate. She formerly lived in Denver and had many friends here who mourn her death.
