House Warming and Halloween Party at Stockdale Home

The Stockdales west of Denver hosted a large house warming and Halloween party last Thursday. The Denver Merchants Band performed along with Stockdale family and guests, followed by a music-filled program and plentiful refreshments.

Baptist Missionary Society Meeting Notes November Fifth

The Woman's Baptist Missionary Society met with Mrs. Flora Benedict on November 5. Leader Mrs. Anna Whisler opened with a hymn and Psalm reading. The group discussed Scripture readings, shared missionary notes from Africa via Mrs. Minnie Tharp, and heard talks from Mrs. Fern Zook and Mrs. Mary Melton. Twenty two members attended plus many children.

Denver Welcomes Charles Hoover to Lead Central Office

Denver Co-Operative Telephone Company secures Charles Hoover to run the Central office and act as lineman. Hoover, from Burrows Indiana, brings over fourteen years in telephone work and has overhauled the switch board saving money and improving service. He is an expert electrician able to handle house wiring and will assist with community electrical needs. The company is rebuilding lines for better service as Denver plans electric lighting and power next year.

Arnold See Taken Ill Then Undergoes Appendix Operation

Arnold See son of Mr and Mrs W T See grew seriously ill at school last Wednesday an acute appendicitis was diagnosed by home physician Dr E Waymire He was moved to Dukes hospital Peru Thursday afternoon where he underwent appendectomy He recovered well and is expected to regain health Mr and Mrs See visited Peru daily with their son Airnold’s condition and future recovery they hope will be favorable

George C Miller Sr Pioneer Peru Merchant Dies

George C Miller Sr a longtime Peru merchant and prominent citizen died Tuesday morning at his home 82 West Sixth Street from a stroke suffered weeks earlier. Funeral services were at First Methodist Church at 2 30 this afternoon conducted by Rev Fred Thornburg with interment in Mount Hope cemetery.

President Grant Arrives in France With 5000 Troops

The United States army transport President Grant arrived safely in France on October 31 with 5,000 American troops aboard. The voyage carries Grimes Derek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Co. Derek, who enlisted last summer. In a letter to his parents he said he was on his way and in good health.

In Denver Mr and Mrs David Ferrow marked their 60th wedding anniversary at home near the Baptist Church on Oct 30 with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Masquerade at Cattlow Hotel Guests Guess Who

Miss Ruby Cunningham hosted a Halloween masquerade at her Cattlow Hotel home for about forty schoolmates and friends. Guests wore queer costumes, guessing games and contests provided amusement. Helen Sellers and Henry Bumiller won the advertising contest and candy prizes. Refreshments included apples and popcorn.

All Officers Re-Elected in Town Election

The town elected all officers to full terms after a light turnout with one ticket and no opposition. Clerk votes: J B Wright 43, Foster Long 43, L A Dice 43, William Whisler 41. Treasurer: Whisler 41. Wright and Long to four-year terms, Whisler and Dice to two years, starting January 1920.

Red Cross Membership Drive Underway in Denver

Denver residents were urged to join the Red Cross drive running November 2 to 11 to mark the armistice anniversary. Volunteers hoped to renew old memberships and recruit new ones as the war ended yet the Red Cross work continues. A dollar per person was suggested to support relief efforts locally and globally.

Birthday Surprise for A. C. Miller at East Harrison

On Sunday November 2 a family gathering at East Harrison street Denver marked the 77th birthday of A. C. Miller. His sons and their families arrived with a celebratory basket and shared a hearty feast, with Mrs. Miller coordinating the event. Guests included Phillip Miller and wife Gail Miller and wife Jesse Miller and wife and Clyde Miller and wife and Willis Long and wife and baby, plus visitors Mrs. A. F. White and Miss Hammond. The family hopes for many more joyful anniversaries.

Tragic Macy Freight Accident Kills Widow Mrs Oliver Jenkins

A Macy widow, Mrs Oliver Jenkins, was killed instantly Wednesday afternoon when a freight train backing into a siding struck her as she walked home from paying a coal bill. Bystanders reportedly shouted a warning, but she did not hear. The incident occurred just south of the Macy station. train crew learned of the crash after it happened.

The Methodist Ladies Aid Society was entertained at the home of Mrs Russell Liong on a Wednesday afternoon. Mesdames T. M. Greer W. G. Shumate and others assisted Mrs Long. A goodly number of ladies attended.

Golden Anniversary for Mr and Mrs Andrew Friend

Mr and Mrs Andrew Friend celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their Denver home in a surprise hosted by children relatives and friends. A large dinner followed by heartfelt gifts, many gold, marked the event. The couple wed at the Zook home north of Denver November 1, 184. They spent their life in Miami county and are highly respected and in good health.
