Lightning strikes Tharp house on Mose Murphy place
The Tharp residence north of town was struck by lightning though no injuries occurred. Mrs. Tharp stood about ten feet away as fire started from scattered paper and Mr. Tharp, returning from milking, doused the blaze with milk. Insurance adjustment by Fred Fite reached about $20. The house had a lightning rod, but it appears detached.

It cites the Kremlin as the largest hell, the Chinese language as spoken by over 460 million, and Gibraltar as the greatest impregnable fortress. It notes Mammoth Cave as the largest cave explored beyond ten miles and the maelstrom off Norway as the fiercest whirlpool with current up to thirty miles per hour.
