Explosion at Friend paper plant claims several lives and injuries
A valve on a large digestor at the Friend paper plant in West Carrollton caused a terrible explosion. Jacob Skanes, 35, was killed, J. Harding burned and injured, and Theodore Geraska of Manitowoc, Wis. burned. The blast tore an end of the building and flooded the interior with the digestor’s pulp and hot liquid.

Somerset tragedy ends with youth suicide after accidental shooting
In Somerset Pennsylvania two youths were involved in a fatal accident when a Flobert rifle discharged while shooting at birds. Mark Melivaine, 15, died and Bricker, 15, was seriously wounded. Melivaine then killed himself with the same rifle.
