New Baby Arrivals in Peru and Pettysville

On Friday May 26 Mr Stork visited 491 E 3rd St Peru to bless the Squires with a son named William James weighing 8 pounds and the second child for the family joining daughter Anna Belle. In Pettysville Mr and Mrs Wilbur Personette welcomed a baby girl weighing eight pounds as their second child, with a name to be decided soon. Mrs Personette is formerly Miss Fannie Burkholder of Denver. Elsie Martin of near Silver Lake assists at the home. mother and baby are doing well.

Decoration Day Observed Amid Shrinking G A R Ranks

In Denver Decoration Day services honored departed comrades with music and a stirring address by Rev Park at the Baptist Church. Afterward, soldiers decorated graves at Denver Cemetery and Chili Cemetery where Harry K. Cuthbertson spoke. Eight Civil War veterans, one Spanish War soldier, and six World War II veterans attended, highlighting declined G A R numbers and renewed resolve to honor all who served.

Denver Youth Guilty of Forgery at Circuit Court

John Hoover a seventeen year old Denver boy pleaded guilty in circuit court to forging a check on Peru Trust Co with Mrs Martha Millers name. Judge Ward fined him ten dollars plus costs and sentenced four months on the penal farm. Hoover said he spent most of the money on whiskey and led officers to Mrs Eva Gehrings West Canal Street home where liquor was seized. Gehring was arrested for illegal liquor possession.

Ladies Aid Meeting at Denver M E Church

The Ladies Aid Society of the Denver M E Church will meet next Thursday afternoon June 1 at Mrs Walter Eikenberry's home west of Denver. Mesdames G W Musselman Frank Farner and Emma Tharp assist. Mrs Eikenberry to entertain. A splendid program has been prepared.

Surprise visit honors Homer Ward at Denver Brethren class

A surprise was given to Homer Ward on a Wednesday evening by the Samaritan class of the Denver Brethren Sunday School. Ward, the teacher, had returned home and begun milking when the crowd entered. Attendees included Ward’s wife and daughter, Ruth and Mildred Doud, Charles and Ralph Ward, Carl Maus and family, Carl Earhart and family, Ethel Earhart, Rebecca Eikenberry, plus many others. Refreshments followed and the group left late, praising the evening as well spent.

Former Miami County Lady Dies in Gas City

Mrs. John Turnipseed, born and raised near Mexico, died Monday at 10:00 at her Gas City home after a week long illness caused by valvular heart trouble. Survived by husband John Turnipseed two brothers Arthur Dillman of Kansas and Frank Dillman of Providence R I and sister Mrs Jane Fisher of Peru. Funeral held at Dunkard Church in Mexico at 1 30 Wednesday burial in Greenlawn cemetery attendances from Denver included Mr and Mrs M E Murphy Mrs William Lee and Mrs A C Cunningham.

Commencement Saturday for Miami County Eighth Grade

Graduation exercises for 240 eighth grade pupils in Miami County will be held Saturday June 3 at 2 PM in the Wallace Theatre Peru. Hon Albert Stump of Indianapolis will deliver the commencement address. Music by the Wilson Carpenter orchestra. Richland Township holds a separate ceremony at Chili on Tuesday evening June 6.

Illustrated Lecture by County Agent Thorne

On Wednesday evening June 7 county agent Thorne will present a free two reel illustrated lecture at the school house starting at eight o clock. D. Love of Chili fractured a forearm when the car backfired while starting after church services on Tuesday. He had used a crank due to low batteries. the injury is painful and will disable the arm for weeks.

Farmers heed warning on grain growers contract risk

Opening Ice Cream Parlor by Bob Kline on Payson Street

Bob Kline and his mother plan to open an ice cream parlor and confectionery south of the bank on Payson Street this Saturday evening. The building has been redecorated with a white enamel finish and will include a soda fountain later. stock and equipment will be sufficient for the opening. Denver residents have long desired a clean wholesome ice cream parlor and support is expected to help the venture succeed.

Children of Mrs. F M Redman organized a last Thursday birthday surprise for her 78th birthday. Family members from Peru joined in bringing ice cream and large cakes and presented a reed rocking chair as a thoughtful gift.
