Denver Trustees Open First Meeting to Organize

Newly elected Denver Trustees met Monday at the Tribune office to organize the board and plan actions. Foster Long was elected chairman. They will seek county approval to transfer this year’s road tax to the town for road repairs and street improvements and will not take pay, only approved expenses. They will travel to Indianapolis Friday for guidance from state accounting and tax boards before any business proceeds. The next meeting is set for Monday evening July 21 in the Bank Directors room.

Farmer John Kraning Rites Held After Death at Home

John Kraning age 83 died at his Denver road home last Thursday morning. A German immigrant at eighteen, he lived in Miami county many years. Survived by wife Martha J. Kraning and eight children including Elizabeth Earhart Anna Donaldson Emma Wilson Mary Fisher George Charles Kraning Joseph Kraning and another Charles Kraning. Funeral Saturday at home at two with services at Eel River Chaos at three and burial in Eel River Cemetery.

Family Reunion At Mrs See's On East Harrison

A pleasant family reunion was held at the home of Mrs. John See on East Harrison Street on the Fourth. Her children and grandchildren gathered to spend the day with her. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer See of Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph See and niece Pearl Canavah of Michigan City, and Barcue Leedy and family of Deedsville.

Wood Wright Returns Home From Navy Service

Wood Wright, after more than a year in the United States Navy, is back with his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Wright. He received an honorable discharge about two weeks ago and arrived home early last week. He will likely stay in Denver for a time to help his father as needed.

Opened Pool Room by Kokomo Man in Manchester Building

Robert Broman of Kokomo has rented the Manchester building at Harrison and Payson and opened a pool and billiard room. He hopes the business will pay and may move his family to Denver soon if successful.

D. H. Brown Re-Elected Miami County School Superintendent

D H Brown was re elected Thursday at 10 am as superintendent of Miami county schools. He had resigned earlier but supporters rallied to have him run with four other candidates withdrawing in his favor. Brown won nine votes to Hartley four with an honorary Democratic vote and one absence.

Vacation Ends For Local Group At Blue Lake

Mr and Mrs L H Dice and Miss Nellie Waggoner returned home after a week at Linwood Twilight and Dawn cottages at Blue Lake near Churubusco Indiana The party included multiple relatives from Fort Wayne Detroit and Churubusco The weather was ideal for fishing and swimming and the group reports a week of pleasure before returning to duties at the Tribune office

Mrs Emma Tharp received a telegram from her son Edgar Wednesday saying he arrived in the United States and is stationed at Camp Merritt New Jersey He wrote June 28 that his company would depart Paris June 29 and sail on the George Washington which brought President Wilson home It is expected Edgar will be mustered out soon and return home

Missionary Meeting of Woman's Baptist Society

The Woman's Baptist Missionary Society met with Mrs. Rebecca Stoffer on July 2 led by Mrs. Vesta Zook. The session included prayers, scripture readings, a tongue and temperature check, a doctor’s powder of readings, and a prescription urging daily prayers for missions, regular giving, subscriptions, letter writing, and study of mission materials. Denver Brick Road Opens Partly For Traffic

A new brick road through Denver was partially opened last week with grading along the curb and culvert work ongoing. When the culverts are finished the road will be passable again and teams and cars are now using the two squares between Emmons and Bond streets.

The Brethren Church diet. held a Thursday devotional and business meeting led by Mrs Charles Shoemaker.
