John English Dies at 84 in Peru Township Indiana

John English eldest son of Joseph F and Edna Hopper English born April 14 1836 in Licking County Ohio died January 2 1921 at the home of his daughter Mrs Albert Donaldson in Peru Township Minami County aged 84 years 8 months 18 days He married Sarah F E Fair May 14 1863 and they had seven children He leaves a brother two sisters seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren A Church of the Brethren member for over forty years he was known as a hardworking man and caring father Services were held by Rev Frank Fisher and interment was at the Mexico cemetery.

Family returns from Peru as Lois recovers in Denver

Mr and Mrs Victor Long traveled to Peru Saturday and brought back their daughter Lois who had been in Miami County Hospital for several days recovering from a delicate middle ear operation by Dr Van Meter and Dr Waymire of Denver. They are staying with Mrs Longs parents in Denver and plan to return home once Lois is fully recovered.

Farmers Institute Highlights Two Busy Twelve Mile Days

Cass County Adams Township Farmers Institute drew 500 attendees with lectures on Better Homes and Better Living and Soil Improvement. Logansport Chamber of Commerce backed the event, while parish groups served a large dairy dinner for about 200. A moving picture show and community songs capped Friday night as badges sales topped 250 for next year.

Lee Grimes, a Denver native, plans a new cash‑only store in the former B. M. Way location in the Grimes building. The shop will stock groceries, dry goods, notions and more with regular prices and a mid February opening aimed at competitive, everyday values. Mrs. Clarence Raber of a Denver southwest district falls Sunday morning injuring ligaments in her right foot. The injury keeps her from home duties, so sister Mrs. Harry Raber stays to help with the household and child until recovery.

Miss Wilma Fouts daughter of Albert and Mrs Fouts Denver and Russell Harter son of Delbert and Mrs Harter Denver were married at Winona Lake at the bride’s sister Mrs A T Ronk home. Rev A T Ronk officiated. The couple will reside with the bride’s parents before moving to the groom’s family home south of Denver.

Missionary Society Meets at Tharp Home in January

The Woman's Baptist Missionary Society met January 6 at Mrs. Lizzie Tharp with Mrs. Flora Haines guiding. Readings included Psalms 119 and The Indian's Twenty Third Psalm, and prayers for ongoing special meetings. The group supports a Crawford Baptist Industrial School girl, Nannie Yort, 11, and reports the building fund reaching 100 dollars.

Meetings Continue All Week at Denver Baptist Church

The Special Meetings at Denver Baptist Church will run through the week and Sunday with growing attendance. Four people expressed desire to live a christian life on Sunday evening, and Thursday is School Night with expected large crowds of pupils parents and teachers at preaching services Sunday morning and evening.

Mexico P T A Holds Large Meeting at Church

The Mex ico Parent-Teachers Association met at Progressive Brethren Church due to overflow at the school. Harrison Griffith spoke on School harmony with home church and school discussed. music featured a ladies quartet and violin solo by the president. The group planned a joint debate with the Denver P T A and set the next meeting for February first Tuesday evening with school provided program.

Two Pound Girl Born to Former Local Couple

A two pound baby girl, born to Mr and Mrs L Thomas of Haverhill Monton, is kept in an incubator in Billings Montana. The parents, Mrs Thomas formerly Miss Bessie Gowdy of Union Pier Michigan, are cousins of Mrs W C Babcock of Denver Indiana. The infant remains perfectly formed and active despite its tiny size.

Grimes and Stowman Wed Quietly in Peru Ceremony

William Grimes a Denver area farmer secretly married Blanch Stowman New Year’s Day by Rev Harry Nyce at Peru courthouse. They returned to the Grimes farm near Denver to host friends and relatives, announcing their new status.

Mrs Elizabeth Donaldson spent Thursday night with Miss Emma Gallahan. Attend the Closing Out Farm Sale of George and Ed Uleh a mile west of Gilead on Wednesday January 19 1921. William Balsbaugh Jr surprised his parents and relatives returning home after four years away mostly spent in Washington and the Dakotas with tales of wonderful sights but happiness to be home again.
