The Union Meetings report strong turnout with Sunday attendance full and others turned away. Pastor L. A. Myers of the Brethren Church preaches this week on topics including Pilates Wife and The Word of God with singing and praise each evening inviting all to attend.
Mr and Mrs Earl Murphy parked their Ford touring car beside the Peru courthouse Saturday afternoon. By four oclock they found the machine stolen and notified officers. A search failed until Tuesday when the car was found abandoned in South Peru after fuel ran out and minor damage noted.
New instructors to replace dismissed Jefferson township staff have not yet arrived. Mr Miller, previously in charge of Manual Training at Denver, moves to Mexico to assume principalship. His successor and the Mexico Domestic Science teacher are expected to arrive this week. Mr Murphy and Miss Cox transfer from Mexico to Denver to finish the term.
The Purdue Glee Club, a 30 member choir with a six piece jazz band an orchestra a Hawaiian steel quartet and more, comes to Peru’s Methodist Church Friday March 1 at 8 00 pm under Epworth League sponsorship for a rare musical event.
Mrs. A L Davis visited Chili on Wednesday and spoke with her brother Henderson Elliott who has been ill but is improving and able to be up again. Cream sales occur every Friday at the Cream Station, formerly run by S D Weeks. W T See Denver Ind.
Attendees are urged to join ongoing Brethren Church meetings. Seven young ladies joined the altar on Saturday night and two on Sunday morning. The Booster Band and Harry Richer's circle boost the services with singing. Rev. L. A. Myers preaches this week with services at 7:30 p m weekdays, and Sunday at 10:45 a m and 7:00 p m.
Mr and Mrs George Hayes with Aly Long depart Denver for Camp Vancouver Washington where Hayes has been assigned to the forestry division of the federal service. If housing cannot be arranged Mrs Hayes may stay with her Portland aunt six miles from the camp. Mr Long will return home after the children settle in.
Mrs Wilbur Personette, long in poor health, was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis last week. She underwent appendicitis surgery and other complications. reports say she is improving and progressing well. Mr Personette stayed with her until Sunday evening.
Mrs. Lewis Gustin received word Sunday evening of the death of her uncle Scott Pence of Lebanon Ohio The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon
A 1918 letter from Alma Norris now in Los Angeles, dated February 6, recounts news from Denver and Chicago, updates on family and friends, knitting for a soldier, Red Cross work, and California weather. Norris mentions mail delays, birthdays, and relief efforts, noting mild, dry winter and low gas costs in Los Angeles.
Alma describes a home garden in bloom with Calla Lilies Iris French Marigolds and more. She recalls a Redondo beach trip for a 34 lb fish at 30c and a Pasadena excursion to see peas and berries. She shares wartime thoughts on sacrifice news from Camp Lewis Camp Kearny and letters from friends and relatives as she writes to John.
Sunday School will meet at ten o'clock next Sunday followed by preaching by Rev. W C McClain. His sermon topic is What We Are as an American People and what we ought to be. Services begin at eleven o'clock. Everybody invited.
E D Leavitt of Shirley attended the B W Fraling Public Sale on the Leavitt farm south of town. He has sold his Shirley store and plans to move to a new farm near Shirley, with his family expecting to relocate soon. Denver residents express regret but offer best wishes.
HARRY L. HAGEE of Peru Indiana advertises Punna Chicken Chowder claiming hens will lay again when fed per directions. The ad offers to trade chowder for eggs at 60 cents a dozen.
Mrs Mary Berger traveled to Gilead on Tuesday to stay a few days beside her son-in-law Dora Keim who is seriously ill with lung trouble. She was accompanied to Gilead by Mr and Mrs Albert Berger.
Mrs Kate Workings of Mexico and Mrs Henry Workings of Michigan visited J. T. Donaldson and his family last week. Mrs Henry Workings, who has been visiting Denver relatives, returned home with her for a few days visit.
Miss Edith Musselman of Chili spent a brief Saturday in Denver while traveling to Macy for a visit with sister Mrs. Gertie Lowe. Mrs. Lowe and her husband plan to move from the county to Macy this week. Sale Bills at Tamuns Office.
