Meetings to form county federation in Miami county

The Federation of Farmers announces a series of township meetings across Miami county to submit the constitution and by laws of the county organization. Dates run Feb 13 through March 4 with township by township details and chairmen listed.

Perrysburg Social News and School Fundraiser

Miss Sylvia Leedy and Miss Garnet Keim spent Friday night with friends in Perrysburg. The Perrysburg school Box Social netted about $30 to buy reading books. Local residents and families visits span Peru and Denver areas with church services noted and community greetings.

Stowman Visits Colfax with Daughter and Family

D C Stowman left Saturday for Colfax where he visited over Sunday with his daughter Mrs Bert Goff and family. Little Miss Louise Gott, here a week as guest of her grandparent Par Edia, returned home with him. Stowman accompanies her to Logansport to visit son Charles before returning home. Charles was to leave Monday.

Dinner for Miss Stinson at Mrs Tharp’s East Harrison home

Mrs J P Tharp entertained at six o clock dinner in honor of Miss Latrena Stinson with guests including Miss Grace Bartaway Miss Grace Gass Miss Zula Tong the Misses Sapho and Garnet Wright and Mrs Ina Fouts. Stinson, recently with B M Way Store Co in Denver, will assist in Ashton Ill to open a new store. Garnet Wright remains with Denver store along with Mr Kinning to maintain service.

Reception for Soldiers in Chili honors returning service men

A reception at the Chill Methodist Church on Sunday evening February 16 honored six Chili soldiers returning from overseas service. Local veterans spoke of their gratitude while Rev. Charles Golden shared navy experiences. A varied program delighted attendees as flags and bunting decorated the church, marking Chili’s first such tribute in Miami County with more expected.

Surprise Sunday School singalong draws praise at Methodist event

Attendees at the Methodist Sunday School were treated to a surprise performance by Foster Long who sang a prohibition song in a unique stunt. Organizers tease further surprises as plans unfold, urging all to attend next Sunday School session.

Deserter List Error Highlights Gordon V Grimes

Local draft records misprinted Gordon Vern on Grimes from Miami county as a deserter. Grimes enlisted in August 1917 and served eleven months in France driving ambulances and motor trucks near Verdun, earning hometown pride upon return.

Dwight Victor Hammond 1896 1919 Obituary

Dwight Victor Hammond son of Daniel V and Josephine A Hammond died in New Castle Indiana after influenza at age 22 years 4 months and 26 days. He was baptized at eleven and lived a patient kind life. His body was returned to Chili for funeral services conducted by Rev White and burial in Chili Cemetery.

Fred Borger suffers broken arm after hay mow fall

Fred Borger fifteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert Borger living near Deedsvilla fell from a hay mow on Wednesday evening last week injuring his left arm at the wrist. He was taken to Denver where Dr E S Waymire treated the fracture. Recovery will take several weeks and the boy is fortunate no worse injuries occurred.

Baptist Missionary Society Meeting At Mrs Perry Tharp Home

The Baptist Missionary Society met at Mrs. Perry Tharp's home on Wednesday February 5 for their monthly gathering. A goodly number attended and the afternoon was spent reading and discussing home and foreign missions an industrial school. Mrs Emma Zook led the session with Flora Benedict acting as secretary.

Marriage License Issued to Shipman and Schroll

A marriage license was issued to Henry Shipman of Bemant, Illinois, and Miss Beulah Schroll of Denver. Shipman recently left military service after active duty in France where he lost a limb. We wish the couple success and happiness in their married life.
