John H Miller of Jefferson township Miami county Indiana rose from farming to cattle breeding. Born November 9 1852 to Levi Miller founder of the Orphans Home at Mexico he bought two Polled Durham herds in 1891, exhibited at state fairs in Ohio Indiana and Illinois, and achieved top success breeding superior cattle.

Death of David Sloppy Pioneer Passes at Home
David Sloppy, aged 80, longtime west-of-town farmer and respected pioneer, died last Wednesday afternoon from old age. He was born in Pennsylvania on December 3 1819 and married Fanny Hoover in 1843, later widowed in 1885, then married Elizabeth Battie in 1887. Survived by six children and his two wives, his funeral was held at the Baptist church with interment at West Lawn Cemetery.

Freight crewman C A Godfrey Injured In Wreck
Meager details reach North Manchester of injuries to C A Godfrey a B and O railroad freight brakeman. He jumped from the engine when danger appeared but fell on an obstruction and was severely hurt. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The engineer and fireman suffered broken legs and a conductor and another brakeman were reported killed.
