The Denver Electric Light and Power Co reported its first major outage after a transformer burned out on Saturday in Chili. Elvin and Lee Long transported the unit to Chicago for rebuilding, a process expected to take weeks. In the interim they seek a replacement transformer while power motors were briefly disrupted but lights remained mostly operational.
Mexico hosts a sectional basketball meet on February 16 and 17. Wayne Emmelmann in Indianapolis handles late entries. District teams include Miami county squads such as Peru Amboy and Mexico and Cass and Fulton county teams like Rochester Akron and Kewanna.
One hundred twenty two county teachers submitted manuscripts at a Saturday examination conducted by County Superintendent L Powell in Peru. The event highlighted ongoing efforts to assess and certify teaching staff within the region.

Ernest A. Kessler, well known Auburn traveling salesman, died Saturday at 5:45 AM at Sacred Heart hospital Garrett after a brief bronchial pneumonia illness. Born April 20, 1856 in Wittington Germany he emigrated at 14, lived in Difiance Ohio Denver and Auburn since 1870. He left a first wife with two children Maria Shafer and Edith Keasler and a second wife Mary Toben with six more: Clara Dutcher Frank Kessler Albert Walter Herman and Alma. He was a member of the International Bible Students Association.
Mr and Mrs Dow Trent will move their goods to North Manchester on Thursday to establish a new home. Mr Trent plans to enter the undertaking business with a good opening and later open a furniture store connected with funeral parlors and undertaking. He is a licensed embalmer with extensive experience and owns a motor funeral car, promising a sizable future business.
The section D market of the M. E. B. Aid Society at Murphy and Long Store Saturday afternoon was a resounding success. Ladies quickly sold all eatables and could have sold more, raising a good sum for the Aid Treasury.
The W. W. G. of the Denver Baptist Church will hold its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday evening February 8. The location is to be announced in Sunday School. Miss Irene Bender will lead the program and all members are urged to attend.
Mrs A J Long is able to be out again after a week of illness with lagrippe.
The County Independent Basket Ball Tournament will be held in Peru February 9 and 10 at the Community Gymnasium under Peru Community Service. A fifteen inch silver loving cup will crown the winner with smaller cups for each winning player and a Spalding official basketball for the runner up. Plans include four games Friday and all day Saturday culminating in a Saturday night final. Managers will meet in Peru a week early for a dinner and drawing arrangements.
A car en route to Peru skidded on icy ruts in the hills north of Peru, left the road and turned over into a ditch injuring J. A. Ream lightly and giving Mr. Woolver a severe facial cut requiring stitches. Drivers report many ditchings on the Denver to Peru stretch as ice and ruts persist.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Miller closed a sale this week transferring their Denver house on South Chandler Street to Mr and Mrs F D Guinn. They had intended to offer it at the Community Sale Friday but closed Monday with possession set for March 1.

The Union Township Farmers Institute meets Friday February 9 in Deedsville High School. Premiums awarded for yellow white and mixed corn and domestic science exhibits. Morning session features addresses by Mrs. Tuttle and V A Place, plus music and readings. Afternoon session includes more talks, a membership report, a male quartet, and adjournment.
Mack Moon stockbuyer of Peru suffered serious injuries in a Monday auto crash at Main and Holman. His car overturned after colliding with Donald Reed’s vehicle as Moon traveled west on Main. Moon received a head cut, leg injury and bruises, was taken to Broadway for treatment. both cars damaged. recovery expected though serious.

Mr and Mrs Fred Landis and Mr Walter Hiatt of Peru were guests at the home of Dr and Mrs G Wr Mus Selman and family for a social gathering.
Mr and Mrs Fred Garritson of Peru left Monday for Rochester Minnesota to consult Mayo Brothers specialists as he battles long illness. Seven physicians have already examined him with five more planned. The Tribune joins friends in hoping for recovery while Raymond and Mrs Garritson of Tipton care for the home.
In St. Joe Michigan on Thursday January 25 Charles H Pontius of Miami married Mary Gilbert of Peru. Pontius, son of the late Mr and Mrs Ed Pontius, lived in Denver with his parents before the move to Miami. The couple traveled to Denver after the ceremony then returned to Miami to live with the groom’s mother. Friends offer warm congratulations and best wishes.
A series of revival meetings at the Denver M E church draws growing crowds and six souls accept Christ. Pastor Rev H W Park and Rev Fisher of Walton lead the efforts, with Rev Annette of the Baptist Theological School Chicago delivering a well received sermon to a large audience.
