Horse Thieves Strike Denver Then Are Recovered

Denver residents woke to news that two valuable Dr. J. W. Newell horses were stolen during the night. Five men reportedly attempted a store break in but were startled away by George Austie’s alarm. The thieves fled east from Grimes corner but left no trace as traffic erased clues. Both stolen animals were found later the same day, one near Handy and the other attached to a telephone pole by Peru’s railroad hospital, with no suspects identified.
