Fire at Little Mines Injures No One In Indiana Rush

Petersburg August 22 two hundred men fought a mine fire at the Little mines on the C and FE railroad in southern Indiana while three hundred miners were rescued from the colliery no casualties occurred. The fire started in the fanhouse and spread toward the tipple with help from nearby towns and rapid automobile responses. Repairs begin immediately and operations expected to resume in three days.

Rooster ordered killed by police in Logansport

In Logansport on August 20 a vicious rooster owned by Casiner Jabulonski was ordered killed by police after it attacked neighbors. The bird pecked at the neck and eyes of a young boy, prompting Dr. J. P. Hetherington to treat the injuries. Patrolman Liming directed Mrs. Jablonski to kill the rooster, and she was pecked during the act.

Claims Part of Estate Found Alive in Idaho Ranch

Hammond August 22 Former Hobart resident Mat Franzen declared legally dead two years ago by Lake Superior court has been found alive on a Lewiston Idaho ranch and claims a share of his father’s Hobart township estate. Franzen left Hobart in 1868 and last wrote in 1875 from a western fort. Relatives believed him killed in an Indian uprising after a dead soldier matched his description. Franzen is now an elderly married man with a large family.

Man Overcome by Heat Eats Grass Among Sheep

Clarence B. Tufts fifty five owner of a large Washington township tract was seized by heat and went insane. After hours of searching family found him on hands and knees eating grass among a flock of sheep. He was jailed and later declared unsound minded. He will be sent to Madison insane hospital for treatment.
