Home Savings and Loan Office Moves to New Corner

The Home Savings and Loan Association of Peru relocates from 57 N Broadway to Broadway and Fifth Streets in the Schmoll block. After extensive remodeling including two vaults, new plumbing, electric wiring, heating, and furnishings, the bank will open on the ground floor with several offices and a public lobby.

Home Coming and Community Conference at Skillman Church

A Home Coming and Community Conference will be held at Skillman Missionary Church five miles southeast of Denver next Sunday August 10 an all day service with basket dinner. The program includes sermons solos addresses and singing led by Harry Richer of Peru with Revs Gilliland White Lamar Dist Supt Hall and Rev and Mrs MacLeod of China. The Sacrament and Conference follow Dr Hall s sermon at 3 00 pm. All former residents are invited to Rev Gilliland s 11 00 am sermon and to the night service at 8 30 pm with Rev and Mrs MacLeod.

Soldier Boys Home From War Endure Short Tour

Earl McCoy son of Mrs Emma McCoy of Denver and Lawton Steffy son of Mr and Mrs George Steffy of Mexico arrived home Tuesday after over two years in the United States Army. They were with the 7th Engineers and served in Germany since the armistice in November. Mustered out Monday at Chillicothe Ohio, they survived the final battles with their regiment reduced to under two hundred effective men.

Old Settlers Picnic Set For August 16 Near Miami

The forty first annual Old Settlers Association picnic for Miami Cass and Howard counties will be held in Richard's grove about a mile southeast of Miami on Saturday August 16 with a morning program and an afternoon program. Speakers include H L Walker Montpelier and Conrad Wolf Kokomo. The Julian family Onward will provide music and the Methodist Ladies Aid will serve dinner.

Federation of Farmers Meeting on August 11

A meeting of the Federation of Farmers is set for next Monday evening August 11 in the Brethren Church basement. The event aims to receive prices valid for fertilizer contracts and teems with a Purdue guest to discuss seed wheat. Chairman N B Brower urges all farmers to attend.

Town Board approves curb plans for new brick street

At Monday's meeting the Town Board adopted plans and specifications for curb construction and fronting improvements on the new brick street. The documents are on file with town clerk L H Dice for reading by all property owners before building. The move aims to give the street a neater appearance.

Five Big Joy Days Chautauqua Opens in Denver Week

Denver hosts a nine day Chautauqua from July 30 to August 8 featuring Harry Bennett and entertainers, Mother Leonora M. Lake, Mozart Orchestral Ladies, ex Governor Frank B. Willis, Hettie Jane Dunaway, Royal Hawaiian Singers, and James Knox. The event includes a Junior Chautauqua, a field meet, and a parade with Red Cross themes. Powell Is E L Powell New County Superintendent

On the ninetieth ballot E L Powell of Macy was elected county superintendent of Miami County to succeed D H Brown. Powell won support from trustees across multiple townships after a hard fought contest with H L Hartley and Ira Kessler, amid eighty five ballots cast without a clear winner.
