Peru Shoe Firm Closed by Sheriff Sale Planned

The large shoe establishment of A. T. Hillis at Peru was closed by the sheriff on a mortgage held by the Citizen's National Bank. The stock will be sold at auction on Tuesday August 10th in bulk to the highest bidder.

Lightning Strikes Macy Area House. Total Loss Reported

The Dells home near Macy was struck by lightning last Thursday night and burned to the ground with all contents. Mr Dell, briefly unconscious from the shock, is improving. Mrs Dell and the child were uninjured. Loss is total though some insurance may offset part.

Programme Epworth League in Hoff's grove August 7

The Lake Erie and Western Railroad Company offers a cheap day excursion to Indianapolis on Sunday August 7 1898. A special train departs Denver at 8 17 am for $1.00, featuring a full day at the state capital with parks. The Four Hundred reviews new Wabash dining cars built at St Charles Mo with antique oak interior finished in green gold and Venetian red. Cars feature ornate drapery portieres shades and gold accents, highbacked antique oak chairs, a large pantry, a spacious kitchen with a half ton capacity refrigerator, and multiple table configurations for 30 or 40 diners. Each car includes individual lighting, Pintsch gas illumination, pasteurizer filters, wide vestibules for easy door access, and a design focused on practicality and elegance for excursion service.
