Miami County farmers and bankers organize to join a national Agricultural Credits Bank in Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Cattle Loan Company will operate through the Farm Loan Bank and offer loans to farmers with growing livestock as collateral across Miami County and other Indiana counties. Charles Sedwick, Indianapolis livestock commissioner, leads the effort and expects an official county agent announcement soon.
On Sunday July 29 Marvin Hunt celebrated his ninth birthday with a surprise party hosted by his parents Mr and Mrs N B Hunt. Nine boys from the Denver M E Church Sunday School class attended the Saturday afternoon gathering.
A third annual reunion of former Denver girls gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lacey near Somerset on Sunday July 27. The group, aged former classmates including Cora Balsbaugh Ida Fouta Mildred Griswold Audna Derek Myrtle Dukes Della Lacey and others, enjoyed hot chicken noodles coffee and lunch under shade trees with social chatter and a long-table dinner. The next gathering is set for the Blots home on the third Sunday in July.
Franks Hirks and wife with Ruf and Miss Edna Benedict were entertained at a lovely dinner Sunday at the home of JA Re Fa.
Earl Elliott, 15, son of Carl Elliott and Julia Elliott, died after accidentally discharging a gun at the Wabash and O. and O. Crossing in West Peru. He had placed the gun on a plank, leaned on the barrel, and it slipped, firing into his side, heart, and lungs. He was taken to Dukes Hospital where he died about an hour later. Funeral services were held at the Chili Methodist Church and burial followed in Chili cemetery.
Wibes and Grimes Garage ceases operations under state fire marshal orders. Wibel now drives for a Denver bakery, Grimes without a definite new location. Denver area regrets the closing of two ambitious local garages.
The BY section hosted a picture entertainment last Thursday with Holland scenery and Yellowstone National Park films. Omer Holman of Peru presented the show after an earlier Monday program was canceled due to a failed electric car.
Mrs Carl Hay was taken to Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester Sunday and underwent an operation Monday morning performed by Dr Shafer. She is improving as well as could be expected and it is thought that unless unforeseen complications arise she should soon be back in good health.
William Henry Dubbs longtime Mexico neighborhood resident of Jefferson township died Wednesday at 1 PM after years of illness. Born September 19, 1841 in York County Pennsylvania he was 82. He married Sarah Ann Kahlbaugh in 1861 and leaves two children Emma Wikes Denver and Edward Dubbs Logansport plus sister Amanda Myers Kansas City. A miller by trade he was active in the Lutheran church. Funeral at 2 PM Friday in Mexico’s Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. J. W. Trout officiating. Interment Greenlawn cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Charley Gruwell and family entertained guests Sunday for a birthday dinner honoring William Gruwell who turned 78 the previous day. Attendees included John Gruwell Elise Stub Cole Charles Todd Boyer Robert Elizabeth Jane Mary Berger Cathryne Sunday and John. A noon meal and a large cake with 78 candles marked the occasion.
Mr and Mrs Gilbert Kinley and Mr and Mrs William Morrett motor to Winona Friday evening to hear the renowned Josef Lhevinne. The city hosted thousands of listeners enjoying a rare concert by a world noted pianist with additional attendees including Pearl Smith and Nellie Waggoner from the vicinity.
Dr and Mrs J W Newell Mr and Mrs James Staller of Denver and Mr and Mrs Ed Kime of Twelve Mile motor to Ludington Michigan for a two to three week stay at South Bayou Hamilton Lake. They previously visited for a week and found it an ideal fishing place with pleasant climate.
Mr and Mrs Daniel Raber closed a deal last week selling their West Denver home to James Black of Mexico. They do not know their next location yet and are seeking a new home in Denver or Peru.

Mrs Glenn Thoennes of Peru visited her parents Mr and Mrs C B Stockdale Tuesday and spent the evening with her little niece Miss Marlee Stockdale who stayed the night.
