A motorcar used by the L. E. & W. section gang escaped at Doyle and sped toward Peru at about twenty miles per hour. It crossed streets and the depot, then collided with a switch engine at the round house. The car and engine suffered damage. O. P. Cover, the section foreman, was slightly injured by a rail strike that started the runaway.
A near miss occurred Monday evening when four blaze incidents were discovered at the Baptist Parsonage barn in Denver. Children playing reportedly struck matches that ignited an old buggy, which started the fire before the barn caught. Neighbors moved the buggy out in time. no hay was inside, but the buggy burned, including the seat and top.
Fragmentary rural notes mention Miss Fay Sloppy and P. S. Sullivan and son with references to appendicitis and weekend visits. Mentions of Frances Berger and guests appear among scattered family items and dates unreadable.
The County Sunday School Convention met in Deedsville on Tuesday with state workers Prof. E. T. Albertson and Miss Emma Lemon presenting studies on The S. Curriculum The Baby and Our Goal. H. M. Edger Zike Peru Mrs. Oliver Hunt Mexico Mrs. Della Eikenberry Denver. The report urges Tp officers to relay conventions to county officials to monitor ongoing work.
Five year old Damarius Joine Richardson died after a coal oil fire explosion started by a parent left the home embers burning. The girl ran ignited clothes to the exterior as her mother tried to douse the flames. Funeral services were held at the Mexio Dunkard church with burial in the local cemetery.
Mrs W T See transacted business in Denver Friday while W T See did so in Peru Thursday. Ruth Buck visited May See and Maude Yoders. Dan Braden and Paul Prity families joined Albert Fair. Omer Hedges and family visited Mr Wilson. Rev Hunt from Mexico preached at Perrysburg. Nena Jones of Twelve Mile called on Grace Harris. Harris accompanied Jones home. Lawrence Cunningham and family visited Cunningham’s sister Mrs Clete Whitmyre and family of Twelve Mile.
The Chili and Denver Methodist Sunday schools near the end of a close contest with two Sundays left. Chili led by 13 points after 1,026 to 1,086, but Denver’s attendance drop due to illness could reverse the margin. Both sides expect strong attendance next Sunday as they push for final victory.
A northbound freight derailed six cars near Rochester after a brake beam failed between rails north of the depot. One car dragged 100 feet over ties, damaging a switch stand and sidewalk near the gas plant. Wreckage cleared by 12:30, trains returned to normal. morning passenger trains held until the line reopened.
Remains of Joseph Wade brought to Denver for burial in the I O O F cemetery after dying at the county farm. Wade, over seventy nine, had been an invalid for five to six years and had lived in Denver most of his life. Burial followed a brief service at the cemetery after transport from Hammond Murphy morgue via the L E W A line.
O B Andrews, sick for over two months and near death at times, has shown marked improvement. He and his wife drove to Denver on Thursday, though Ora cannot yet use his hands and remains mainly without feeling in them. They are staying with Mrs Murphy and her husband in the Woolley town area.
W H Howes and wife plan improvements to their Harrison Street home. They will build a kitchen and bath, enlarge the dining room, add an upstairs area, and create a more convenient residence.
A Saturday evening gathering near Denver surprised Miss Winifred Carson with twenty four friends including Claudia Sapho and Garnet Wright Eva Grimes Mary Alderfer Alma Dukes Effie Moody Kathryn Balsbaugh Anna Gustin Mildred Gustin Marie Long Honor Maus Bessie Pyle and others The party featured ice cream and cake a candy pull piano selections and games The guests presented a mirror to Winifred and wished her many happy birthdays.
Peru Saturday examinees include P. S. Sullivan Elvin Sullivan and L. H. Dice. A C Eikenberry tested in North Manchester. Denver postmaster selection will come from these applicants. Chili Deedsville Macy offices had four three and three examinees respectively.

An old fashioned spelling school will be held in the Darnell building on the evening of May 2. An old time teacher will be in charge of the Spellin Bee. A 5 cent door charge will be collected. All are invited to attend and take part.
Borrower B. R. Guise is asked to return the fence stretchers to the owner at the fence location as a favor and final settlement.
