Collision at Crash Corner prompts stop sign debate
A Tuesday morning collision at Sixth Street and Market Street involved a Denton pickup driven by G Emory Gottwall and a Hillsboro driver Melvin Pepper. Both operators suffered abrasions and were treated by a local doctor. Pepper was charged with failing to yield at the intersection. August Fire Report Totals 14 Alarms Countywide
In August the county saw 14 fire alarms split 66 town and 8 rural. Four dwellings and four auto blazes, plus one tractor, two miscellaneous incidents, and three assists to other towns. Firemen logged 543 hours, traveled 13214 miles, used 850 feet of 1 inch hose and 1850 feet of 1 1/4 inch hose. Loss reached 9050 dollars with 5000 insured. Federalsburg Fire Co. led with five alarms.
