Lan Hubbard and Mrs. Ober chaired a church social with a two week adjournment for baskets for the sick. Vivian Needles celebrated with a surprise birthday, gifts, ice cream and cake from Mr. and Mrs. Needles. A covered dish supper followed with songs, a poem by Herman Dorman, and a brief address by Reverend Lane.
The Orphan's Court met in regular session on Tuesday September 25 with Judges Handy Dennis and Fooks. The last will of Laura V Marvel was admitted to probate and letters testamentary granted to Carlton A Marvel and William D Marvel. Notices to creditors were ordered and appraisals, accounts, and stock assignments filed across multiple estates including Harry V Noble Martha J Webb William R Goslin and W Edgar Andrew.
Sixty freshmen and sophomores from six states begin classes at Wesley Junior College, the largest enrollment in three years. Dr. Q A Bartley notes first-year enrollment is 14 above last year’s late peak, with 40 freshmen registered and orientation under way. Ten boys are enrolled, four sophomores and six freshmen, and freshmen attend Wesley Methodist Church services as part of the opening program.
