Dairy Industry Growth Presses Milk to Cities
The dairy sector near Easton and Queen Anne grows to thousands daily as milk floods to Philadelphia. A station closure threat at Queen Anne due to Greensboro condenser price cuts was averted by Inter State Milk Producers Association and Philadelphia officials. Queen Anne now ships whole milk, with eight tons daily. about one ton goes to Philadelphia, the rest to Greensboro for condensed milk. Farmers favor a Denton to Lake Point boulevard to ship milk to Baltimore, seen as better than the Pennsylvania terminal. Basic milk price at Queen Anne is 2.69 per hundredweight for four percent milk, with surplus milk paid by butterfat prices. last month dairymen received 1.81 for surplus milk, totaling roughly 12,000 to 15,000 dollars every thirty days.
