A yearbook analysis shows about 8.5 percent of owner farmers in fifteen corn and wheat states lost their farms through foreclosure or bank ruptcy or turned over to creditors without legal action. White farmer bankruptcies rose from 6.5 to 17 percent by 1923, with Northwest bankruptcies climbing from 18 to 54 percent since 1920.
